The Moscow Metro is celebrating three months of operation of its digital stations, located at Maryina Roscha on the Big Circle Line (BCL) and Terminal 1 of the Nizhegorodskaya MCD station. These stations showcase a range of innovative technologies designed to enhance the passenger experience.

Key features of the digital stations include:
• Remotely updatable digital signage: route information, station guidelines, and trip planning tools are updated remotely in under a minute, providing passengers with real-time information.
• Interactive touchscreen kiosks: passengers can easily access station maps, equipment details, and neighborhood maps.
• Live Communication digital desks: at Maryina Roscha station, passengers have communicated with the chatbot Alexander in the guise of a 3D virtual assistant more than 6,000 times in the first three months of operation.
• Improved turnstile efficiency: new turnstile designs have increased throughput by over 30 percent.
• New ticket vending machines: over 1,200 passengers have utilized the redesigned ticketing machines with their user-friendly interfaces.
• Escalator mini-projectors: these provide real-time weather updates and display helpful announcements.
Passenger feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, particularly regarding the real-time train occupancy indicators and the improved digital wayfinding system. All technologies incorporated were developed by domestic Russian companies.
These are the first digital stations in Russia, and they’re already proving their worth. Passengers are benefiting from cutting-edge digital wayfinding signs, state-of-the-art turnstiles, and, at Maryina Roscha, our interactive Live Communication kiosk. Following Mayor Sergey Sobyanin’s directives, we are not only enhancing passenger services but also driving innovation and efficiency, – said Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.
The city plans to expand digital wayfinding services to up to 30% of all metro stations by 2030. The Live Communication desk at Maryina Roscha station offers a variety of services including route planning, Troika card top-ups, station maps, and the purchase of Moscow Metro souvenirs.
